About
Erik is the Principal Data Management Architect within Workiva’s Data Management Practice. Originally trained as a mathematician rather than a traditional accountant, he approaches financial systems from a purely logical and structural standpoint.
Erik brings over a decade of hands-on experience leading financial systems architecture in the insurance sector, most recently spending 12 years directing systems and data strategy at Sun Life. Prior to his time in insurance, he managed complex systems and data operations for global brands including Unilever Canada and Tim Hortons. This diverse background across consumer goods, retail, and financial services allows him to design highly scalable reporting strategies that easily handle complex statutory and regulatory demands.
Erik’s career is built on finding hidden efficiencies. By closely analyzing legacy workflows and refining corporate data strategies, he has helped multiple organizations streamline their financial close cycles while simultaneously de-risking their reporting processes. Stripping the friction out of complex numbers is his specialty, particularly when designing minimal-touch, automated data flows across global operations.
Because he lived the client perspective first-hand, Erik knows exactly what it takes to modernize legacy systems. In fact, the automated reporting setup he designed during his career worked so well it won him Workiva’s Digital Transformer of the Year award back when he was a customer. Today, he uses that unique blend of mathematical logic and industry experience to give finance and accounting teams a clear path to true operational maturity.
